Brest region

The region was founded in 1939 after the Belarusian Soviet Socialistic Republic and Western Belarus had been reunited. In 1954 the regions of former Baranovichskaya and Pinskaya districts attached Brest region. But the history of Brest region lies deep in times. The archeologists are sure that already in 5-3 millennium this land was fully populated. The main evidence of it is the settlement of the neolithic age in the place Lyubishchitsy. Brest was first mentioned in chronicles in 1019. In 1794 near the village Krypchitsy (nowadays is the part of the village Chizhevshchina) met the rebels of Tadeush Kostyushko, the division oà the King Serakovskiy and the soldiers of Aleksandr Suvorov. The first victory of Russian soldiers over Napaleon’s army took place near the city Kobrin in 1812.
The fortress that is the symbol of heroical deed of the soviet people during the Great Patriotic War was built in 1833 already. From the events of modern times it should be mentioned that namely on the territory of Brest region in Viskuli the leaders of Russia, Belarus and Ukraine signed famous “Belovezhskoye Agrement” which was the symbol of final dissolution of the USSR. Both former soviet citizens and western tourists come to visit this place nowadays.
Brest region lists more than 2 thousand historical, cultural and architectural monuments. This is also the “pearl” of belarusian Polesye – Pinsk, original Motol and Bezdezh, ancient Kamenets with famous Belaya fortress, Baltic Ishkold and of course hero city Brest.
Brest region is rich on the monuments of nature. Among them are: 22 parks, placed around the palaces and former country estate.
In Brest region there are many kostels and churches persevered from different times and styles which can help one to study the “alphabet” of architecture.
The visiting card of the region is the state national park “Belovezhskaya pushcha”. This unique natural complex is in the World Heritage List of UNESCO.
The region has an advanced transport infrastructure: Brest railroad junction is one of the biggest in Central Europe and fully provided the transit of CIS-countries with the Western European countries on Moscow and St. Petersburg directions. Moreover there is an international highway Ì1/Å-30 through the region connecting the capitals of Germany, Poland, Belarus and Russia.
One can easily get to Brest by air. The airport has an international status and could accept all the types of aircraft.
The guests of the region can have a rest on fresh air in one of the resort zones, located around pictorial natural lakes of Brest district: Beloye (Brest, Berezovskiy districts), Gat (Baranovichy district), Selets (Berezovskiy district), Vygonoshchanskoye (Ivatsevichy district), Zavishye (Ivanovskiy distrct), and Mykhovets (Zhabinkovskiy, Drogichinskiy districts).
Most of the hotels of Brest region correspond by their service level to two- and three-star hotels. The hotel “Suvorov” in Kobrin can even claim on four-star category within the international classification. According to the data of the specialists the hotels of Brest can accommodate about 900 people at a time, and 1,800 guests within the whole region.

Numerous international and republican festivals, sport competitions take place in the cities of Brest region, among them are the most famous and favorite:”January music evenings”, September theatrical festival “Belaya fortress”, festival of superlight aviation and aeronautics in Pruzhany, music fest “Belarusian trumpets” in Baranovichi, bikers’ gatherings and trofi-roads.

Memorial complex «Brest fortress»
It was established on 1969-71 on the territory of Brest fortress in order to immortalize the heroic deed of defenders of Brest fortress.
The first in the republic state “National park “Belovezhskaya pushcha” is among ancient conservation areas of the planet. One can find untouched places here.
“Belaya fortress”
The monument of defense architecture of the XIII century is Kamenetskaya fortress which attracts thousands of tourists to visit the region.
“The Palace of Sapegi”
The Palace was built on a high place surrounded by mound banks and water barriers. Nowadays only the ruins of the earthen fortifications and stoned walls bear evidence of former citadel.
“The palace of Pyslovskiy”
The ruins of Kosovo castle are called a knightly dream. Long time ago it was a majestic palace in neo-gothic style built in motherland of Tadeush Kostyushko.
The palace in Ruzhany is of great beauty as the ruins could be. Just as the Colosseum in Rome romantic ruins of the former magnates’ residence of the Sapeg decorate the landscape of belarusian settlement.
Pinsk is one of the most ancient cities of Belarus. As always it plays a significant part in the life of Polesye district.

An enormous by its sizes farm is occupied the territory of 9 hectares of a pictorial land of Kobrin district.
