An exhibition of Marc Chagall’s reproductions was opened in Yakub Kolas Square in Minsk on 7 June. The event is a part of The Artist and the City project marking the 125th birthday of Marc Chagall.

The Minsk square is decorated with reproductions of Chagall’s 19 masterpieces. Each of them is supported by a story of its creation in four languages: Belarusian, Russia, English and French.

In Belarus there are no Marc Chagall paintings. The Museum in Vitebsk has more than 300 graphic works: printed graphics, etchings, lithography. The works of Marc Chagall are kept in museums in Russia, and in private collections in western countries. The Belarusian side turned to the State Russian Museum and Moscow's Tretyakov Gallery for help and they donated the slides. The exhibition features the works created by the artist before his departure to France in 1922. Some of the paintings depict Vitebsk landscapes.

The exhibition will stay open until September. The program of the celebrations of the 125th anniversary of Marc Chagall includes the children's art gallery, plein air event and the performance about life and creative work of the artist.
