Hockey World Championship of 2014

On May 8, 2009 in Swiss Bern the International Hockey Federation (IHF) Congress took place, where the decision was made to hold the World Championship of 2014 in Belarus.

Significant improvement in development of Belarusian hockey has been observed for the last years. It has been in the full glare of President of the Republic of Belarus, A. Lukashenko, who both supports this kind of sport and plays hockey well himself.

The results of the national team allowed Belarus to get a pass to hold the Hockey World Championship of 2014.

Belarus will accept the championship in Minsk-Arena Sportive Complex with the capacity of 15 thousand attendance, as well as Chizhovka-Arena Sportive Complex (8 thousand seats), which is due to be opened in 2013.

Minsk is a modern, rapidly developing European metropolitan, famous for its economic growth, impressive construction rates and low criminal rates, kind-hearted and hospitable people.

Minsk is located on the banks of the river Svisloch in the heart of Belarus. The population of the city makes up 1.8 million people. This is the main transport center of the Republic with two airports, underground line and railway station.

Minsk provides everyone with comfortable accommodation (more than 30 hotels and over 40 hostels). The can accommodate around 6000 people. In the nearest future seven new hotel complexes will be built, among which there will be five-star hotels Hayat Regency and Campinski. Taking into account the whole region the hotels can accommodate over 10 000 guests.
