Turov
The town is located in Zhitkovichi District, Gomel Region. Motorways connect it with David-Gorodok, Zhitkovichi and Lelchitsy.
Turov is the oldest town founded in an area that was once populated by the East Slavic tribe of Dregovichi. In the late 10th century the town became the center of Turov Principality. Turov was first mentioned in chronicles in 980 as the spiritual center of the principality. It was one of the first Slavic towns where an Orthodox Christian eparchy was founded.

In 1320 Turov became part of the Great Principality of Lithuania.
During the Great Patriotic War the town was occupied by fascist troops. In 1941-1944 it was one of the center of the Belarusian Communist youth underground movement.
Today Turov is gradually building up its tourist potential. There is a high-class hotel in the town that can accommodate 240 guests.
One of the most prominent monuments of architecture in Turov is the All Saints Church (1810) situated in the downtown. According to an old legend, two stone crosses that stand in front of the church were brought to Turov by the waters of the river Prypyats when Russia was christened by Prince of Kyiv Vladimir. The third cross stands in the older part of St Boris and Gleb’s cemetery.
A memorial installed to mark the 1000th anniversary of Turov can be found in the downtown. A museum of local history, culture and lore is situated near the memorial.
Turov residents take special pride in the beautiful parks and a picturesque quay of their hometown. The town has a café (100 seats) and two cinemas.
