The Yaselda
The Yaselda is a tributary of the Prypyats River (the Dnieper basin). It runs through Belarus’ Brest Region (Pruzhany, Bereza, Drogichin, Pinsk districts), crossing the lakes of Motol and Sporovskoye.
Length — 250 km, basin area — 5,430 square km, maximum width — 8 km, catchment basin — 7,790 square km (30% — woods, 25% — farmland).
Main tributaries: the Vinets Channel, the Zhigulyanka, the Oginski Channel.
The river is navigable.
The average length of the river valley is 2-4 km, the maximum width is 8 km.
The river freezes in late November and melts in late March.
Yaselda recreation area, Sporovo Hunting and Fishing Centre, Selets water reservoir and Bereza town are situated within the Yaselda basin.
The most important monuments of architecture of the area include St Peter and Paul’s Church (18th century, Bereza) and Porechye landscape park (19th century).
In addition, there are several Neolithic, Bronze Age and Iron Age settlements in the region.
