A unique example of defence architecture, the foundation and the remains of what once was a stone castle are resting on top of the Castle Hill, one the highest hills in Belarus (323 metres above sea level), surrounded by a dike. The top of the hill offers a spectacular panorama of the whole neighbourhood.

Place: Liubcha village
Liubcha, a small borough in the present-day Grodno Region, had repeatedly been presented by kings and great counts as a gift to their retinue. First, Lithuanian King Mindovg would present the borough to Kyiv’s boyar Andrey Kiyan, who settled down in Novogrudok in seeking refuge from the Tartar’s frequent inroads. In 1428 King Vitaut would present Liubchas as gift to his spouse Ulyana. In 1499 Great Count Alexander presented the borough to Feodor Khreptovich.

Bykhov
Built in 1590, the stone castle in the ancient Belarusian townof Bykhov used to be owned by the Svidrigailos, the Gashtold Count Family, the Khodkevich tycoon family and the Sapiegas. Jan Khodkevich, a hetman of the Great Duchy of Lithuania, would receive the King’s official permission to build a stone castle and fortifications to substitute the wooden ones.

The health resort land of Myadel has a varied historical past. The range of archeological monuments of Myadel includes ancient burial hills, primeval people’s camp sites, the remnants of the 11th century frontier citadel of the Duchy of Polotsk. The castle site was found on an island in Lake Myadel. The ancient wooden walls of the castle withstood at least three fires.
