Kosava castle

Kościuszko was born in the village of Mereszowszczyzna in present-day Belarus, Polish-Lithuanian commonwealth (now Kosava in Belarus).

In 1857 Wandalin Puslowski invested in the reconsntruction of the house of the legendary compatriot and the house became part of the castle ensemble.
The castle built by the Puslowskis in 1830 is Belarus’ only surviving architectural monument that can be classified as 'regular palace' with very impressive regular geometry. A combination of the classic and neo-gothic styles, the palace used to have over 130 rooms, all different and special in its own way.

In 1999 they put an obelisk to mark the location of the farmstead. The Kościuszko family house has now been restored again a painting by Napoleon Orda, which features a two-storied house with a thatched roof.
Every year on February 4 the house hosts festivities dedicated to Kościuszko’s birthday. On that day diplomats visit Kosava to pay tribute to the national hero of many a nation.
