If you come for holiday to hospitable Myadel land rich in the historical past, you can combine health improvement, rest and sightseeing tours. Among the archaeological sites of Myadel lands there are burial mounds, tombs, settlements, towns, remnants of a fortified medieval village – the border fortress of the Polotsk Principality of XI century, discovered on the island of Castle of Lake Myadel. The wooden castle walls have survived at least three fires.

The second stone castle already existed in the XV-XVIII centuries.The second stone castle existed in XV―XVIII cc. on the island of Lake Myastro near the western outskirts of Myadel. It was built by the Radziwills, that allowed Nicholay Radziwill to get the title of the Duke of the Holy Roman Empire by Emperor Maximilian in the Myadel in 1518. Since 1540 the castle passed into the possession of Sigismund II Augustus.

Citadel was once washed from three sides by the waters of a deep lake, and it was surrounded by a wide moat from the fourth side. The fortress and the city were linked by a wooden bridge. Nowadays, the island became a peninsula, and if you get there, you will find yourself on the site of the ancient city.

Some of its fragments have been kept up to our days. Archaeologists and historians state that the castle once organically combined the features of Western European fortification with original Belarusian defense traditions.

The castle, which consisted of 18-meter-diameter stone tower-dungeon and the palace. It served as a safe shelter for residents and neighborhoods of Myadel for a long time until it was destroyed by the Swedes during the Northern War of 1700 - 1721. The fragments of the once 30-meter high tower, just a meter and a half in height, survived up to our days.
