Exploring the Rivers and Lakes
Belarus is the land of more than 10 thousand lakes and 20 thousand rivers. Due to its water expanses Belarus is often called “a blue-eyed country”. A great number of folktales are connected with lakes, springs and rivers.
Every summer, the Naroch becomes one of the main resorts of the country. Boarding houses, hotels, holiday homes and estates, situated at the picturesque shores of the lake are open for Belarusian and foreign tourists. The Naroch means sandy beaches, boating, diving and fishing. The local restaurants serve dishes made with recently caught fish. Various grig dishes are very popular.
Besides the Naroch, the Braslav, Lake Svityaz also enjoys popularity among tourists. Romantic and secret aura covers this one of the favourite tourists sites, its natural beauty attract a lot of people. The visitors are offered a wide range of activities: from extreme scuba-diving to sailing at moonlit night.
A branched system of rivers is a real network of waterways. Taking them, you can reach any part of the country. There exist special river routes for extreme rafting, as well as “comfortable water tours”. The Belarusian large rivers, such as the Dnieper, the Nyoman, the Western Bug and the Pripyat, are navigable waterways. The Avgustovsky Cannel, with its original system of sluices, built two centuries ago and recently restored, is one of the tourist attractions.
